Had a busy day yesterday here in Dublin appearing as a witness to help our Banking Inquiry get to the bottom of what went wrong in the Irish economy. Zero regulation is the answer. Banks do what banks do, which is lend as much as possible to make as much profit as possible to get as much cash into the mitts of the insiders as possible. That’s the deal.
This allowed me time to go back and read Kindelberger again, which is always a joy. Also, I took the opportunity to re-read JK Galbraith – a pleasure and time well spent.
