7 Years Down the Road

Good Morning,

As we head into the final weeks of the United States Presidential election, we thought it worthwhile this week to turn our attention to the United States economy and where it stands. We are now in the 7th year of recovery from the great recession in 2008/2009 — I know it doesn’t feel like that, but that’s where we are!

The headline economic numbers back up Federal Reserve (FOMC) Chair Yellen’s “room to run” explanation for not raising rates at the September FOMC meeting. While concerns about a sharp growth slowdown have abated (we expect Q3 growth to be around 2.5%), the continued sideways movement in the unemployment rates (stuck around 5% mark) suggests that there is more labour market slack to be rid of.
